News - Autism Teaching Institute

The Course in ASD Support Work 40496SA was offered for the first time in Victoria by the Autism Teaching Institute in 2007.

Developed by Autism South Australia and TAFE SA and nationally registered as accredited national training, the Autism Teaching Institute (ATI) is registered to deliver the course in Victoria. The course focuses on training school support staff (eg, ESOs) working in classrooms with students with an ASD.

The course is
short and intensive, delivered over three days. The course comprises 3 units of competency and must all be undertaken to be awarded the Course in ASD Support Work. The units of competency are:

Effectively Support Individuals with an ASD

- Plan and implement community integration CHCDIS6C

- Support students with special needs CHCDIS8A.

Successful completion of the course will result in a Statement of Attainment for the Course in ASD Support Work.

The
course features a variety of flexible delivery modes including lectures delivered by experienced staff in the field, workshops and hands-on activities.

An ASD-specific field placement of half a day with an ATI Trainer will be required to demonstrate competence in the workplace. Assessment will also include two short written tasks.

20 Feb 2010 10am - 4pm

Cost: $550.00 per person OR $1000.00 for a team of 1 Teacher plus 1 E.S. from the same school.

Fees are payable BEFORE course commencement. If your school is paying for the course, please ensure to note this on your application form.
